First and foremost, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has taken time off work and volunteered over the past two days. Your hard work and perseverance have made a huge difference, and the facilities are already showing significant improvement. The BBC visited the site and filmed a feature about our clean-up efforts, which will air on North West Tonight—be sure to have a look, especially as Peter Bradley gets a mention
Here’s an update on our progress and next steps:
Clean-Up Progress
- Clubhouse Clearing- The clubhouse has been completely cleared out, removing damaged items and debris to create a clean space to start rebuilding with.
- Jet Washing- We’ve managed to jet wash 90% of the mud out of the clubhouse. This has been a painstaking process, but it’s brought us closer to restoring the space to a usable condition.
- Equipment- Although a lot had to be discarded due to water and mud damage, we’re grateful that most of the furniture was salvageable. This will help reduce replacement costs and speed up our recovery.
Next Steps
- Structural Inspection: The next priority is to have the changing rooms inspected by a structural engineer to ensure they’re safe to enter. This will guide our decisions on repair or rebuilding efforts.
- Electrical & Mechanical Work: Engineers and electricians are already assessing the clubhouse to identify the work required to restore power and essential services. Until these systems are operational, the clubhouse won’t be fully functional.
Levee Rebuilding
The Environment Agency was scheduled to begin work on rebuilding the levee tomorrow. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen delays, this has been pushed back, and we’re now hoping for work to commence next week. We’ll keep everyone updated as we get more information.
Fundraising Update
We’re thrilled to share that we’ve just hit 50% of our JustGiving target! This is an incredible milestone, and we couldn’t have done it without the generosity of everyone who has donated so far.
Thank you for supporting us during this challenging time. However, we’re still only halfway there, and additional funds are crucial to complete the recovery efforts. If you can contribute, no matter how small the amount, it would make a huge difference.
How You Can Help
- Volunteer: More hands are always welcome. If you can spare some time, there’s still plenty to do. More volunteer days are currently being planned.
- Donate: Our JustGiving page is still active, and every penny helps us rebuild. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/dsgflood1
- Spread the Word: Sharing our situation with your friends, family, and networks can help us reach a wider audience for donations and support.
Thank you once again to everyone who has supported us so far. Together, we’re making amazing progress, and with your continued help, we’ll get back on our feet. Let’s keep up the momentum!
